Keynote

Transparent collaboration

Not about tools - give them and let them explore - get on with the learning

Schools will NOT prepare our kids for the world, until we teach them to collaborate with other constructively!

Techno- Skeptics  - tech is evil!!  )

Techno - Evangelists  - world is changing embrace

Techno Minetics - best practice

Just because we can...does not mean we have to!

How to use tools -understand the pedo.  what is the right tool to use.

Schools train creativity out of the individual - as time goes on - 5th grade, nothing creative - do not mean to but because of the way the culture is set up - "punnished" for asking to many questions.

Want to move from expert centered training where it is directed from the expert, lecture,  learner is passive;

Work based model - look at PD as something that is facilitated, mentoring, learning is isolated to what is happening at work

Life based model - teacher/student directed, content based adaptive to the context  LEARNER AS A WHOLE PERSON

What is our legacy - Are we willing to change?  Incredibly messy  - last generation to decide whether or not we want to master tech - our students now - will not be given that privelage - not give skills within safety net - you are doing a disservice

Learn as fast as the world is changing - do it for the childrens' sake.

Notes from twitter during keynote.  Thanks, twitter friends.  It was great meeting face to face!

Lori Abrahams fsinfo we all laughed about the power of twitter - and how we all go try the new toys as soon as someone twitters it. ex diigo
Charlene Chausis cchausis but the tools enable a powerful form for learning!
Erica iteachcomputers "This isn't about the tools." - How true!
Charlene Chausis cchausis @fsinfo... thanks... didn't want to be missing the discussion elsewhere
Lori Abrahams fsinfo @cchausis Looks like Twitter is the back channel.
Charlene Chausis cchausis @teach42 .. not outsourcing to India, but definitely shopping online for work
Luke1946 Luke1946 I'm looking at the tweets between folks at tech forum and thinking, isn't this kind of like the kids at school passing notes?
Steve Dembo teach42 Cartoon about a student asking if he can "outsource his homework to India". Sounds funny. BUT... Are students actually doing that???

*Try out realtime and decide how it could best be used in education - sharing with networks - looking online to collaborate on thier own time to decide and discuss the potentials  (this is what I DO! Yah!  I am on the right track).

Flickr user Noah Sussman powerful image of where to be in teaching and learning  - don't be the top dot, be in the middle

Most are happy to share via 2.0 activities if given the opportunity

Connectivity?  What will it take to get me to this point?

Our learning curve to all 2.0 is getting smaller and smaller - have to provide PD to get those people motivated

Average classroom teacher does not speak the 2.0 language - we need to make a committment to become tech saavy.

Need to come from administrator - no leadership-no hope.

Web 2.0 connectivity a must -

Web 2.0 and PD (Meg Ormiston)

"I need to teach in a different way"

Using Ning - Tech Camp for Educators

Social networking hard to get until you get into it and understand it

Classroom 2.0 group

Could you teach a class with Ning?  SURE! I want PD to continue after the face to face...impact change, continued dialogue

There is nothing wrong with Social Networking - it is what users choose to place on their network

Through Social Networking - have your won piece of the world.

Twitter is the best PD right now

Community, PD, In Schools

Theory in practice - SKYPE Kristen Hokanson - Pennsylvania Tech Integration Coach

Saving links - social bookmarking

Diigo - house all bookmarks and share them out

Wikispaces connects the teacher and student outside the classroom continues the conversation on demand

Blogs  private allow students to take ownership and evaluate and collaborate.

Google tools  - google apps for education - web conferences to get involved in - contacts

Spreadsheets; Docs; Groups;

Developing policy within practice

Library in 2.0 - collab with LRC Libriarian - Tech integrator and Librarian - laptops in the classroom do not need to come to the library - keep in the back on mind what type of data and other resources; meet daily - speak the same language

Collab online tools - allows teacher to watch, moderate, and see what the kids are doing and thinking!

Sharing dekstops 2.0 tools

Yugma - events ID's / Free (?) / webinars

Vyew

USE THESE TOOLS FOR GOOD!

Round Table type discussion from Web 2.0

Administrators - are our leaders in our districts tech saavy enough

Check out coolcatteacher - check it out.

Some districts block all 2.0 - twitter, google etc

It is about philosophy and perspective - what are you trying to utlize this tool for?  Any alternatives?  Bring in house like drupal and moodle

IF YOU SEE WHAT IS OUT THERE YOU NEED TO MAKE IT HAPPEN!  DO NOT GIVE UP THE FIGHT! GBS Principal in this session - seems to have great vision

Adults need to let students teach them - learning by doing - apply acorss the board

Collaborations between various learners

It is all about the students and how they can connect with the local and global world.

Develop out your network - inspiration, personal support, sharing

Leading Change in a Digital World

Meg Ormiston

We have to change!

Working with Administrators

Tech Camps; Illinois Web2.0 tools

Wikinomics in Education - Dan Tapscott ; shapes thinking where we are going in the future - MASS COLLABORATION is changing everything!  Future of Learning

We is Smarter Than Me

New powerful modes of production and communication

What does 2.0 mean?  In the real world?  We are preparing our student for?  Not the world where we started teaching.

The Perfect Storm in Education

    * Most tools are blocked - OPEN them UP

    * Net Generation are your students - STOP talking about them THEY ARE HERE!

    * Global economy is not impacting our curriculum - YES IT IS!

School is like a lockdown when it comes to 2.0

We have to remove the road blocks - help teachers to use collabortive tools

Classroom teachers are responsibile for every moment of the day - must keep up with the students and what they are doing even those that are creative computing, bypassing filters, proxies

Selectivly appropriate v. policing the kids = give them the skills so that once they leave the school, they are using technology productivly and safely

Leadership needs to understand and stop saying NO - easy but not the right answer

(lots of audience participation...Meg has hardly talked!  :) )

Before the tech, discussions should take place - stop chasing

Three different log ins - teacher, student, admin - Idea for blocking issues ..hmmmm?????

Facilitate the Perfect Storm

Some of us are islands - need tech support group

    * technology - 2.0 contribute to everything else

    * net-gen  - generation of kids that grew up collaborating

    * global economy forces us to reach out and collaborating

Critical element - classroom teacher needs support

Planning with the end in mind - educate the teachers; resources that we dedicate to the teacher

Change our model of PD for teachers AND leaders

Web Tools - browser based tools verses open source verse software

Acceptable alternatives to software

Teacher Trainers need to train themselves before they train others - if PD is not meeting your needs you need to be committed and make it happen for your own learning

Follow up on all PD is essential

Teachers willing to give time to PD but every moment is dedicated to teaching and with students - admin is responsibile and stand up for teachers - technology is important we need to advance our teachers

What should a teacher in a classroom today look like?  Change vision?  Leadership level needs to change.

Is there a technology vision specific to technology - what is today's vision for technology in schools

There is no one size fits all solution for technology in schools, PD

Our leaders need to grow, too - if teachers are teaching PD - what are they learning?  Where is there PD?  Are they missing out ?  What is your personal PD plan? Investigate and Play to learn!

VISION - where are we going?

What is your PLAN?  What are you going to DO about making sure there is a clear vision?

More about how to you teach and learn  in the 21st Century rather than just how you learn?  The 21st century kids are here....

Through leadership lens - what do they know?  using?  NEED TO BE ON THE RADAR SCREEN

skype - ustream - rss-  podcasting -  bloglines - twitter-  blogs - tags -  wikipedia - image chef - mashups -  microblogging -  teacher tube - you tube -  voice thread - facebook -

ning - del.icio.us - linkedin-  secondlife -  google alerts -  google calendar -  googe docs - google sketchup - street  view - google earth - google maps -  google page creator - google advanced search -  web 2.0

When ADMIN uses the above - it is ok!  Take a risk!  Part of our responsibility

These tools open up accountability of users!

You are in charge of your own learning and own PD

Student - Teacher roundtables; invite them to show them how tools work

23 things Scavanger  hunt for teachers

When students leave our watch they need to be prepared for their  technological futures - 94%  of populations are students -  6% are teachers

who to we teach to

Give rubric/expectation - students be creative; can do anything at all - (jepke)

Kids being a part of the process - nothing new -  shift need to be from hardware to web tools (smeech)

Engaging our students is critical!  Tools are used to engage -rethink what we are doing - focus should never be the stuff - change in what we are doing  - creativity - stepping out of the comfort zone - we do not teach by the blackine masters anymore -

Creativity is so important right now - we need to have time to think - we need to make time to think

Continue this conversation....
